Back to School: A Guide to Education in Wimbledon

Wimbledon Homes September 2023 Blog

The arrival of September marks the return to school for many – a busy period of last-minute stationary shopping and tantrums about school shoes.

For families with children, finding an area with good schools is likely to be a top priority when searching for a new home. Luckily, for those looking in Southwest London, Wimbledon has some of the best schools in the capital – catering for all levels in both the state and independent sectors.

We’ve rounded up a few of the best educational facilities in Wimbledon to help guide you. Read on to find out more…

The Rowan’s School

Situated on a quiet road in the heart of Wimbledon, The Rowans School offers an excellent educational experience to both boys and girls aged between 3 and 7. With beautiful grounds and large landscaped gardens, children have access to plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy during the school day. The school runs a number of different clubs, activities and events throughout the year, including a popular Summer Fair which Wimbledon Homes were honoured to sponsor for 2023.

Bishop Gilpin Primary School

Founded in 1758, Bishop Gilpin is popular and high performing Church of England primary school located in the heart of Wimbledon Village in the parish of St Mark’s. Pupils consistently meet expected standards in reading, writing and maths and the most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school “outstanding”.

Wimbledon Common Preparatory School

Affectionately known as ‘Squirrels’, Wimbledon Common Preparatory School is an independent school for 140 boys aged 4 – 8 years. It benefits from significant investment from King’s College School, with excellent buildings and facilities. Bringing the school community together, Wimbledon Homes had a stall at the Summer Fair in May and are looking forward to meeting parents at the Christmas event this coming November.

Wimbledon High School

This independent day school for girls between 4 and 18 promises an outstanding education, inspiring lessons and a rich co-curricular programme within a warm and caring community. Focused on preparing students for the future, WHS encourages edgy thinking, risk taking and lots of fun – from stand-up comedy nights to creative 11+ assessments.

The Study

In the heart of Wimbledon village lies this charming prep school grounded in history, offering education for girls aged between 4 – 11. The Study has a strong reputation for academic excellence, where learning is enhanced by an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities, workshops and trips, with opportunities to support the local community as well as charitable causes.

King’s College School

King’s College School has become one of the capital’s top selective schools, with a consistent ability to deliver outstanding examination results in both A Levels and the IB Diploma Programme. This day school for boys aged 7 – 18 and girls aged 16 – 18 years was rated the top grade of ‘excellent’ in all areas following their most recent ISI Report. Wimbledon Homes is pleased to be sponsoring several KSC events this year, including King’s Art 2023, a community tea and school quiz.

New to the Wimbledon Homes books, the fantastic five-bedroom family home on Greenoak Way is located just a few minutes’ walk to Wimbledon Village and Common and close to King’s College School and The Study.
