Community Matters: Supporting Local Causes in Wimbledon

Wimbledon Homes December 2023 Blog

We love being part of the Wimbledon community, especially when it comes to supporting local
groups and causes. Throughout 2023, we’ve been proud to sponsor numerous community events
and initiatives that have taken place across our neighbourhood.

Let’s take a look back at what local causes we have been involved in throughout 2023…

January

For 2023, our team were pleased to establish our year-long partnership with the Polka Theatre. A children’s theatre that has been based in Wimbledon since 1979.

May

The summer saw a flurry of local school events that we were proud to sponsor, kicking off with the Wimbledon Common Preparatory School summer fair. A fantastic community-spirited afternoon in the sunshine which saw plenty of fun activities, including our “guess how many key sweets in the jar” game.

June

We were delighted to sponsor the Marryat Players Summer Chamber Music Festival back in June. This was a truly fantastic series of evenings listening to sublime music against the backdrop of a beautiful English garden in bloom. Audiences enjoyed a showcase of musical talent and thought-provoking discussions between some of the performers.

We also attended The Rowans School summer fair as well as the King’s College School Art show and F1 competition.

July

As part of our ongoing support for the Polka Theatre, we enjoyed a lovely Summer Party fundraiser. Guests were entertained with music from a live band, a children’s show and refreshments.

September

“Dear Mark

I wanted to say a very big thank you for all your kindness in giving me an hour of playing on Court 6 at  Wimbledon and letting David watch.

Showing us around the beautiful inside of Wimbledon that we have seen on TV but never dreamt we would see it in person. The  changing rooms were exquisite and way beyond belief.  Tea and conversation with you on the famous balcony was brilliant!

Good luck with your tennis in  Barcelona and Palma. Enjoy the competition and seeing many  friends again.

We wish you and your business every success !

Many thanks again.

Yours sincerely

Helen and David Sparkes”

October

We were proud to sponsor the Home Start 30th anniversary Ball, which brought together the community and raised over £40,000 for this worthwhile charity that supports local families.

November

The Wimbledon International Music festival ran throughout November, featuring a diverse programme of performances including classical and jazz soloists and ensembles from across the world. We loved sponsoring such a triumphant celebration of creativity on our doorstep.

December

Polka’s Big Bash, an annual family fundraiser where families were able to enjoy a fabulous day out with face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon artists, puppeteers, and a delicious winter picnic as well as tickets to see one of Polka’s festive winter productions!

We attended the Jingle Bells Sports Gala Dinner, which was held in aid of Dons Local Action Group. This local network of volunteers keep the residents of Southwest London fed, connected and supported in their fight against poverty.

Our team was delighted to meet families at the Rowans School Christmas Fair, where guests enjoyed browsing the array of seasonal stalls to find gifts for loved ones as well as tasty snacks and warming drinks.

The cold weather didn’t stop the fun and crowds at the Squirrels Christmas Fair, where our “guess the number of keys in the jar” game was as popular as ever with children lining up to play!

Christmas in the Village returned, which brought together neighbours for a whole host of festivities. Wimbledon Homes HQ welcomed families to enjoy the delightful entertainment of Miss Ballooniverse who wowed the children with her amazing balloon animal artistry whilst parents enjoyed a glass of fizz and a mince pie.

Finally, we had the privilege to sponsor the Local Community Tea party held at Kings College, with over 500 local elderly residents enjoying lots of delicious cakes!

Mark comments, “As we creep towards the end of the year, it’s good to take a moment to reflect on everything that has been achieved. For us at Wimbledon Homes, one of our greatest accomplishments in 2023 has been our consistent support for local charities, schools and groups that work tirelessly in our community.”

We’re looking forward to what 2024 has to bring!
